Three people died following a shootout Monday night in the express lanes of I-96 near Schaefer and Grand River on Detroit's west side.
The incident happened around 10:10 p.m., The Detroit News reports, when 911 callers described a shootout between two vehicles.
One driver, a man in his 30s, was killed along with his female passenger, who was in her late 20s, the paper reports. Both were Detroiters.
The driver in the other car fled on foot, but was was hit by a car and killed while runnning across the freeway. He was a Highland Park resident.
Michigan State Police are investigating whether the two parties knew each other.
Update: 7:42 p.m. Tuesday: The car that hit the man running across the freeway was driven by an off-duty Detroit Police officer, Fox 2 reports.
