9 Candidates File To Replace Mike Duggan As Detroit's Next Mayor

Though the race has been relatively quiet, things could start to heat up now that the Tuesday, 4 p.m. deadline to file for Detroit mayor has passed.

Nine candidates filed in time:

  • Detroit Council President Mary Sheffield
  • Detroit City Councilman Fred Durhal III
  • Former Detroit City Council President Saunteel Jenkins
  • Former Detroit Police Chief James Craig
  • Rev. Solomon Kinloch Jr.
  • Attorney Todd Perkins
  • Retired businessman Joel Haashiim
  • Entrepreneur Jonathan Barlow
  • Dean Evans, who works in criminal justice

The primary is Aug. 5. The two top vote-getters will square off in the general election. 

Detroit Mayor mike Duggan is finishing up his third term in office and is running as an Independent for governor in 2026.
