Maykol Bogoya-Duarte, the 18-year-old Detroit public schools student who fought to stay in America so he could earn 3 1/2 more credits to graduate, is gone.

The Detroit News reports that he was deported to his native Colombia on Thursday night after a series of legal setbacks, according to his attorney.

Max Reinhart of The News reports:

Maykol Bogoya-Duarte arrived sick and hungry in Colombia, according to his attorney, Ruby Robinson, with the Michigan Immigrant Rights Center. Bogoya-Duarte was met at a Colombian airport by family members.

"When he arrived he was not in great condition. He had flulike symptoms and was very hungry. He told his family that he hadn't had an opportunity to shower in a week," Robinson said.

Bogoya-Duarte lost his appeal last week to stay in the U.S. for six months so he could graduate from Detroit's Western International High School.
